Laser Scan to BIM

Scan to BIM is process of 3D laser scanning to create an accurate digital representation of an as-built environment. These 3D representations are used for renovations, retrofits, and refurbishments. It is a practice of creating a digital representation of existing conditions of the building with its physical and functional characteristics in BIM.

A laser scanner is devised to capture an accurate 3D scan which is then imported into a 3D BIM software (Autodesk’s Revit, Graphisoft’s ArchiCAD, Vectorworks, etc.) in order to create either accurate as-built models or to capture the design with the real world conditions.

We use Revit to convert data from the point-cloud to BIM models as per our client’s requirements. We can do laser scanning for existing structures and convert laser scan point cloud data into data rich BIM models and also generate the 2D cad drawings from the same. This method is also useful for projects where expansion is planned.

Benefits of Laser Scan to BIM
  • Scan to BIM helps create as-built BIM Models for retrofit, refurbishment and renovation projects.
  • It enables the creation of as-built BIM models for the renovation work of infrastructure assets such as tunnels and bridges.
  • It uses to create as-built BIM models for MEP services that help the managers provide early clash detection.
  • It enhances the creation of intelligent BIM model in Revit by providing accurate point cloud data to the clients.
  • It helps measure points within the scan to find true dimensions quickly.
